The need
The BC Liquor Distribution Branch (LDB) needed a comprehensive tenant improvement of an operating BC Liquor Store: a better retail environment for customers, improved functionality and operational efficiency for staff, and upgraded building systems, including temperature-controlled premium cabinetry for the store’s fine wine offering. The store had to keep trading throughout.

What made it demanding
Renovating an active retail store means the sales floor, checkout and back-of-house all have to be rebuilt without interrupting the store’s daily business. The work also had to meet LDB project specifications, regulatory requirements and quality standards, with consultants and municipal authorities involved in the review.

Construction was scheduled during non-operational hours, so the store continued serving customers without interruption. Hilson worked closely with the LDB, consultants and municipal authorities to coordinate the construction program against specifications and regulatory requirements.
