A complete quick-service restaurant renovation on a shared commercial site in Coquitlam. Hilson Construction acted as general contractor, taking the store from full demolition to reopening in less than five weeks while the neighbouring Wendy’s continued trading.
The need
Tim Hortons needed an existing store at 1450 United Boulevard in Coquitlam taken from full demolition to a finished, reopened restaurant on a compressed schedule. The location shares its site with a Wendy’s that had to remain fully operational for the entire construction period, so the renovation could not disrupt the neighbouring restaurant’s customers, staff or deliveries.

What made it demanding
The schedule was the defining constraint: approximately 3,300 sq. ft. had to go from demolition through final completion in less than five weeks. At the same time, the adjacent Wendy’s remained open throughout, which meant demolition debris, deliveries, trade parking and noise all had to be managed around a live restaurant on the same site.
How Hilson delivered
Hilson planned the work as a tightly sequenced program. Demolition, rough-in for electrical, plumbing and mechanical, and the finishing trades were scheduled so that each crew could start as soon as the previous one cleared the area. Site access was controlled to separate construction traffic from Wendy’s customers, and daily coordination on site kept the sequence moving and the shared property safe and organized.
